THE TRUTH ABOUT OIL
"Over 1.5 TRILLION barrels of oil equivalent have been produced since Edwin Drake drilled the world's first oil well
in 1859. The world will need that same amount to meet demand in the next 25 years alone. And if you're thinking that
it's all for your gas tank, you're only half right... 50% of the strength of the United States currency is dependent
of cheap, plentiful oil. But what would happen if OPEC would successfully shift their currency from the U.S. dollar
to the Euro, as Iraq and Iran have tried to do? The answer is simple but drastic. The value of our dollar would
plummet by roughly 50%, and we would once again be in an economic state far worse than the Great Depression...
The terrifying part is, without our military presence in the Middle East, it would happen..."
PEAK OIL PRIMER
"The peak in oil production does not signify 'running out of oil', but it does mean the end of cheap oil, as we switch from a buyers' to a sellers' market. For economies leveraged on ever increasing quantities of cheap oil, the consequences may be dire. Without significant successful cultural reform, severe economic and social consequences seem inevitable..."
WARNING: OIL SUPPLIES ARE RUNNING OUT FAST
"The world is heading for a catastrophic energy crunch that could cripple a global economic recovery because most of the major oil fields in the world have passed their peak production, a leading energy economist has warned..."
WORLD ENERGY OUTLOOK (IEA)
"In its recently released World Energy Outlook, the OECD energy watchdog IEA underlines that more than a trillion dollars in annual investments is needed to find new fossil fuels over the next two decades to avoid the impending energy crisis that could easily choke the global economy..."
WORLD ENERGY OUTLOOK (IEA) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2008
The world's energy system is at a crossroads. Current global trends in energy supply and consumption are patently unsustainable--environmentally, economically, socially. But that can--and must--be altered; there's still time to change the road we're on. It is not an exaggeration to claim that the future of human prosperity depends on how successfully we tackle the two central energy challenges facing us today: securing the supply of reliable and affordable energy; and effecting a rapid transformation to a low-carbon, efficient and environmentally benign system of energy supply. What is needed is nothing short of an energy revolution. This World Energy Outlook demonstrates how that might be achieved through decisive policy action and at what cost. It also describes the consequences of failure..."
INTERNATIONAL ENERGY OUTLOOK 2009 (DOE/EIA)
"World marketed energy consumption is projected to increase by 44 percent from 2006 to 2030. Total energy demand in the non-OECD countries [e.g. China, India, Russia] increases by 73 percent, compared with an increase of 15 percent in the OECD countries..."
PEAK OIL IS REAL, WASHINGTON FINALLY ADMITS
"Projected production, as you can see, is suddenly shriveling up. From 107.5 million b/d of oil projected for 2030 in 2007, to 102.9 million b/d in 2008, to this year's meager expectation for 93.1 million. That's a drop of 13.4% in only two years, and posits production growth of only 11.6 million b/d (14.2%) from 2006 levels... If that isn't an admission that the era of Peak Oil is upon us, what is?..."
ASPO-USA: ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF PEAK OIL AND GAS
"The most valuable and widely used source of energy on earth is gradually becom[ing] harder to find and more expensive, setting the scene for considerable social and economic change worldwide..."
PEAK OIL CRISIS - THE END OF CHEAP OIL
Peak Oil is the greatest story never told. Even though Peak Oil is the central fact driving the wars and economic crises of our time, it is seldom mentioned in the mainstream corporate news... Peak Oil (also known as the Big Rollover or the Long Emergency) is when demand for oil outstrips supply because the halfway point of the planet's oil deposits has been passed. 'Halfway' is a misleading word in this context. Most of the oil that's still left in the ground will be staying there, because it takes more oil energy to get it out of the ground than it yields. The oil and natural gas is no longer worth the drilling or pumping. Petroleum geologists reckon that the world oil peak will be sometime between 2005 - 2010. The majority of non-OPEC producers such as the United States, Britain, Norway, and Mexico, who satisfy 60 percent of world oil demand, are already in a production plateau or decline. A leading guru, Colin Campbell (ex of Shell and Total Fina Elf) reckons 2007. Are !
we preparing for it? Are we readying ourselves to radically change our lifestyles and energy consumption? Of course not...
